Solax Film Corp. - US - 1910-1916 - production company formed September 7, 1910 by Alice Guy Blache, Herbert Blache and George A. Magie; Alice Guy was the world’s first woman director with Gaumont; production for Solax was at the Gaumont studio on Congress Ave., Flushing, New York until their studio was built in 1912 in Fort Lee, New Jersey; in 1912, Guy directed what is considered one of the first all black films titled A Fool and His Money; continued releasing films under the Solax trade name; in 1914, company was re-organized as Blache Features and United States Amusement Co. to make more feature length films; originally distributed through Motion Picture Distributing and Sales and moved to Metro Pictures in 1916; studios used by numerous other production companies.
