Mutual Film Corp. - US - 1912- 1918 - distribution company located at 71 West 23rd Street, New York; formed March 1912 by Harry Aitken, et al to consolidate and compete with the Motion Picture Distributing and Sales Co.; located at 60 Wall St. New York and distributed for American Film, Comet, Crystal Photoplays, Éclair, Empire All Star, Gail Kane Productions, Gaumont, Great Northern, Haworth, Keystone, Komic, Lux, Majestic, New York Motion Picture, Reliance, Signal, Solax, Thanhouser, Vogue and William Russell Productions; in May 1915, Aitken left with Kessel and Baumann of New York Motion Picture to form Triangle Film Corp. with D. W. Griffith, Thomas Ince and Mack Sennett; John R. Freuler replaced Aitken as president of Mutual with J. C. Graham as general manager; Mutual signed Centaur Film, Bostock Jungle and Film Co, and Charlie Chaplin as new additions; Mutual had four subsidiary studios operating in California: American Film Co., Lone Star Film Co., Signal Film Corp. and Vogue Films Inc.; Chaplin produced 12 films at the Lone Star studio and left to go to First National; Freuler resigned in May 1918 and was replaced by James M.
